STEP1 Prepare the Necessary Equipment
Ski
- Skis
- Ski poles
- Ski boots
- Knit cap
- Goggles
- Ski wear
- Gloves
Points in Choosing Skis
Choose skis based on your height and weight. In general, skis 10-20 cm shorter than your height are easier to use for a beginner. We recommend soft, flexible skis that are easy to control and don’t do much damage in a fall for a beginner.
Snowboard

- Snowboarding boots

- Ski wear
- Gloves
Points in Choosing a Snowboard
A board that is 15-20 cm shorter than your height is easier to handle. A good rule of thumb is to stand the tip of the board on the ground and have the top of the board come between your shoulders and chin. A softer board is easier to maneuver and reduces damage in the event of a fall.
Other good things to have
-
Inner wear
Inner wear that can thermoregulate makes it easy to adapt to changes in air temperature and maintain a comfortable body temperature.
-
Socks
Long, good-fitting socks protect your feet while skiing or snowboarding. Short socks are not well suited to this.
-
Neck warmer
Protects your neck from cold, wind, and snow. We Recommend one that not only conserves your heat but is also breathable.
-
Sun screen and lip balm
It is safer to have these to protect not only from direct UV rays but also from those reflected by the snow.
-
Lift ticket holder
Since you need it every time you get on the lift, you can attach this to keep it safe if your ski wear doesn’t already have a holder.
-
Tights/leggings
Since the ski resort is at a high elevation and temperatures are cool, wearing tights and leggings help protect you from the cold.
Other things to rent or purchase at the ski resort
STEP2 Purchase a lift ticket
You can purchase an economical web ticket online at an earlier date to make things go smoothly that day.
The “direct in” option that lets you get on the lift without lining up from the second time on is also quite useful. On site, it can be purchased on the 1st floor of Charmant Togakushi.
STEP3 Choose a trail that suits you!
Choosing a trail at the ski resort is very important for fun and safe skiing or snowboarding.
By choosing a trail suited to your skill level, strength, and interests, you can prevent accidents and have a good time.
We recommend beginner trails for first-timers.
-
Togacky-C Trail (Beginner level)
A moderate slope where beginners and elementary level skiers can practice safely. Have fun while you improve your skills.
-
Osensui Trail (Elementary)
Use this roundabout trail for elementary level skiers to enjoy the scenery at the summit. This trail has an excellent view, and is a popular one for enjoying the stunning scenery.
-
Dream trail (Elementary)
Elementary level trail with a moderate slope where you get off Quad Lift No. 3. You can see Mt. Fuji if the weather is fine.
-
Forest run trail (Elementary)
Challenge the intermediate level slope once you get used to skiing. Koshimizu central slope is roomy and ideal for practicing.
For Kids making their slope debut, too!
-
Ninja Slope
There are ninja-themed decorations and games. Children can enjoy ninja characters and decorations, and feel like a ninja as they ski.
-
Kids Park
Inside the Kids Park, you can enjoy not only skiing and snowboarding, but also snow activities like sledding and snow tubing. Here, small children can also fully enjoy the fun of playing in the snow.
We recommend school for beginners!
They employ many certified instructors with lots of experience, and you can take lesson there with peace of mind.
Beginner lessons develop basic skiing techniques, and you will be carefully coached in how to put on skis and basic movements out on the course.

Manners on the Slopes
-
Don’t sit down on the trails!
Don’t stop in the middle of the trail or at the bottom of a steep slope, and when you do stop, go off to the side of the trail.
-
Don’t leave trash on the slopes!
Help protect the natural environment and the beauty of the slopes by bringing your trash back with you.
-
Don’t drop snow or other things from the lifts!
Dropping valuables or equipment increases the risk of loss or damage. Use a strap on them.
-
Don’t ski in areas outside the trails!
Choose a trail that matches your abilities, and be careful not to go into prohibited areas or closed down trails.
-
Mind your surroundings when boarding or exiting lifts!
Stay in line at lift boarding areas, and try to board and exit lifts smoothly.
On exiting, be sure to promptly leave the lift exit area so that those behind you can exit safely. -
When skiing, skiers up ahead have the right of way!
The person skiing ahead of you has the right of way, so take care not to impede the progress of skiers up ahead.
